Released: 4/17/2007
By: Robin C. Oliver

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Tutwiler Hotel has completed its full-scale makeover and has joined the Hilton Family of Hotels as the newest Hampton Inn and Suites hotel.

All 149 rooms in the historic hotel were stripped to their frame to create all-new accommodations in a beautiful historic shell. The early 20th century building was cleaned and restored to its original grandeur. In addition to the general restoration work, several amenities have been added:

• In accordance with the Hampton Inn and Suites brand, which offers a 100 percent guest satisfaction guarantee, the hotel has added a state-of-the-art business center with dedicated boarding pass printer for air travel as well as an on-site fitness center and a suite shop.

• The newly renovated lobby area includes a lending library offering popular fiction and non-fiction books and the front desk will be lending the American Film Industry’s Top 100 movies as well.

• Another exciting addition to the lobby is a hallway gallery of historic Birmingham images accompanied by an audio tour. The gallery was put together with the help of University of Alabama at Birmingham historians.

• The hotel will also be offering a complimentary On the House hot breakfast as well as On the Run Breakfast Bags on weekdays.

• The hotel restaurant has been entirely redone by a local Birmingham chef to become the signature ICON Restaurant and Bar, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as catering services.

• Guest rooms now include 32-inch flat screen televisions and suites include a wet bar, refrigerator and microwave.

• Business conveniences such as wireless internet and airport transportation are offered at no charge.

• The Tutwiler has launched a “Make It Happen” service program that includes employee certification in various areas of service and new technology to alert the general manager when service requests are not met within five minutes. Another feature is a “mission control” room where staff members monitor all guest requests and dispatch team members to handle guests’ needs as well as prepare a special welcome for all arriving guests.

• With the hotel’s new NewspaperDirect service, guests can order from top newspapers from across the world for morning delivery to their room.

The Tutwiler Hotel aims to be Birmingham’s No. 1 hotel choice. Located in the heart of downtown, it is convenient to the downtown business district as well as city and county offices, the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

“This restoration was a much-needed project for a hotel that is very important to both the history and future of Birmingham,” said William Murray, president of Integral Hospitality Solutions. Integral purchased the hotel in March of 2006. “We are absolutely thrilled to see this hotel come back to life and we can’t wait for people to see the new Tutwiler.”
