Released: 6/8/2007
By: Robin C. Oliver
BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport will debut its new look with a grand opening June 21. The hotel has invested $6 million dollars in a complete redesign of the building including a new restaurant and fitness center along with redesigned rooms, lighting and lobby space.
The grand opening is set from 5-8 p.m. and a ribbon cutting will be held at 6:15 p.m. The event will include a silent auction with proceeds going to Jimmie Hale Mission. The hotel was purchased in October by SIG Alabama LLC, a Los Angeles-based company, and is managed by Trussville-based Integral Hospitality Solutions. Integral also manages The Tutwiler Hotel in downtown Birmingham along with more than 40 hotels nationwide.
“One of the most important components of any major airport is a first class, full service airport hotel that makes traveling in and out a city as convenient and comfortable as possible,” said Bryan Groover, Director of Full Service Operations for Integral Hospitality. “The Holiday Inn Airport has been re-positioned as a gateway hotel that Birmingham can be proud of.”
The hotel’s 220 rooms, including 13 two- and three-bedroom suites, have new amenities such as new furniture, microfridges, MP3 player clocks and 32-inch LCD Flat Panel televisions. Guests can count on a 24-hour convenience store, coffee shop, newly designed bar and restaurant, concierge services and wireless high speed Internet access. Guest rooms will average $139 per night.
A highlight of the new hotel is Steel City Grill, a 140-seat casual dining restaurant and bar offering everything from Southern Fried Catfish to the signature Cajun Pasta.
Other features have been added to improve the safety of the guests, including an 8-foot security fence around the property, a 24-hour ATM onsite, on site security and state of the art surveillance system. Since improving the interior lighting and exterior safety features, the hotel has increased its female clientele from eight to 24 percent.
While the convenient location makes Holiday Inn Airport perfect for corporate travelers, general manager Kenneth Stovall said the hotel is also working to attract leisure travelers by assisting with travel and offering concierge services. The hotel offered charter buses for Talladega fans this year and plans to do the same for Alabama football fans flying in for game day.
“We want to make it easy to stay here,” Stovall said. “All our guests need to do is step off the plane and we’ll take care of the rest.”
